Vanuatu... Day Two "Waterfalls and Cocktails"

These are Day Two photo's of our trip to Vanuatu. We went to The Merli Falls which is about 20 mins away from Port Vila. As you head out of town you go through all the little villages that surround the town and it really hits you how beautiful the island is but it also hits you that you are staying in a third world country! Anywhoo, this is REALLY picture heavy {about 30} so on with the show.....

These are the gardens at the bottom of the Waterfalls...

Me and Andy...

This is our guide Robert. And the little boy is Nicholas and Nicholas mum... In this shot is of Robert showing Nicholas how to make a pinwheel of sorts out of leaves...

The incomparable Mrs McVitty...

What should be a 15 min walk to the falls took us 3/4 of an hour but it was so worth the extra time because if Robert didn't stop every 5 minutes to making things along the way and explain their culture and then show us little tracks that you wouldn't know were there, we would have missed amazing views like this...

And if not for the other lovely people on the tour we wouldn't have photo's like these...

The path way leading to the waterfalls...

Robert still talking.....

James next to the biggest bamboo I have seen in a while!

The gorgeous McVitty's....

Here Robert was telling us that a man in his country is usually ready to get married around the age of 23/24 ... But the ladies are not ready to get married till the age of about 35... When they stop complaining about cooking and being in the Kitchen... I told everyone I still wasn't ready!!!

The long and the short of it!

Heading up to the waterfalls....

Butterfly...

We were going on a sailing and snorkling tour the next day and after we got back from the waterfalls and changed we headed into Port Vila and found where we were catching the boat the next day, which happened to be at the back of a little cafe where we had some lunch...

This is the view from our bungalow where we settled in for the afternoon ...

This is the hotel resort's cat "Spike"...

And these are Banana Monkey's!!! YUM!!!

So that was Day Two... Next week Sailing and Snorkeling!!

Deconstructing Sketch #68... Amy's Sketch!

Today is my youngest son Cameron's 13th Birthday...  We have succumbed and arranged for him to have is very first mobile phone. This is a very big deal for myself and Andy because we have always said that we wouldn't give him one till he proved himself responsible enough to handle having it... As I said to him this morning... "With great power comes great responsibility." But over the last 12 months Cam has stepped up and shown us that he can be the person we have always hoped he would turn out to be. So here's to great power and responsibility ....And to here's hoping!

Anywhoo, this the card that I made him.... Lucky his birthday fell on Deconstructing Sketch Day and double lucky that I had an AMAZINGLY fun sketch to work with from our DT member Amy Sheffer!! {Not that your sketches aren't fun too Jen.... Cause they are.... Love you Jen!!}...

Cam actually chose this cute little guy from Tiddly Inks called "Geekatude" to go on his card. Just a tip... Geekatude doesn't have glasses normally. I drew them on because Cam wears them...LOL!

After I printed out the image on white cardstock, I then coloured the little dude in with my Prismacolor pencils. I then cut him out and using these gorgeous papers from Echo Park's For The Record 2 6x6 paper pad and Amy's sketch...

Came up with the above card! And look I even did the inside for him as well!!

If you'd like to join us this week all you need to do is create a project using the above sketch as inspiration. There are no specific image requirements for this challenge. Upload your project to your blog or to an online gallery and link it back to Jen's Blog using the Inlinkz.

Want your sketches a little early? Follow the Deconstructed Sketch on Facebook!! And if you are looking for some older sketches to dig through you can find them in the Deconstructed Sketchbook.

Happy Birthday My Teenage Boy....

Dear Cam,
Happy 13th Birthday my little man. I was going to say that I can't believe that your finally a teenager... But you know what? I can. In the last twelve months you have grown so much, physically but mostly emotionally. Your attitude and sense of responsibility, especially towards your brother has made me extremely proud. We laugh. Your sense of humor is infectious. And you take an interest in others and are mindful of their feelings. When you were born I was so scared that you were going to be as hard to take care of as your brother was, but you made life easy and you still do. You are growing into the man I have always hoped that you would grow to be... But you will always be my baby. I hope your day is special in every way....

Love,
Mum

Day 242 - On my morning walk I come round the corner of North and West Tce and I have always thought how pretty the blossoms down the road in Spring look...So I took a photo!
